Our company
Boscum is a project of three lovers of medicinal mushrooms and mushroom cultivation in general: Francesc, Steffen, and Neus, which was born in the spring of 2022 in La Garrotxa (Girona). We like to summarize what we do by explaining that we work from the spore to harvesting the mushroom, all within our facilities while avoiding intermediaries, to finally produce our medicinal mushroom extracts.
- We are cultivators of medicinal and gourmet mushrooms: hericium, reishi, shiitake, lion's mane, and different varieties of oyster mushrooms are our specialty. We have been working with organic certification since our beginnings to ensure the highest quality of our mushrooms and producing substrates, while also providing secure traceability for our clients. The producers and suppliers of mushrooms we work with have organic certification.
The mushrooms we cultivate grow on high-quality cultivation substrates, as they feed on nutrients from sawdust of woods like holm oak and oak and organic cereals. The raw materials are always from local sources (<100km). - We are producers of medicinal mushroom extracts, which we produce from the mushrooms we cultivate in our facilities and sell under the Boscum brand.
- We are trainers for people interested in cultivated and medicinal mushrooms, training that we provide through workshops on various cultivation themes and techniques, both in-person and virtually.
- We are advisors for professional and amateur cultivators to help realize productive aspirations at the domestic and professional level related to the cultivation of saprophytic mushrooms. Personalized support that we study on a case-by-case basis.
Francesc Aspero Masachs
I have a degree in Geography from the University of Barcelona (2002-2007). Later, I studied Agroecological Production at the Agricultural School of Manresa (2015-2015), where I started cultivating mushrooms.
Within Boscum, I am responsible for the areas of administration, finance, and marketing. I co-direct the training and advisory area.
Mushrooms fascinate me for the functions they develop in natural ecosystems and the multiple resilient applications they have in human nutrition and health, bioconstruction, new materials, water purification, and the regeneration of contaminated soils.
Neus Riera i Carreras
I have training as a Shiatsu therapist based on Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Shiatsu School Scotland (2011-2015). At Boscum, I am the person in charge of the extracts and communication areas. You will find me behind the social networks and in personalized consultations.
The exploration of medicinal mushrooms through Mycotherapy has allowed me to experience for more than ten years the benefits of mushroom extracts on my mental, physical, and emotional health and on people in my environment. At the same time, their knowledge has pushed me to take responsibility for my health and not leave it in the hands of others.
Dr. Steffen Breinlinger
I studied Pharmacy at the University of Fribourg, Germany (2008-2014). Later I pursued a PhD in Pharmaceutical Biology, where I worked on discovering and characterizing new active compounds from cyanobacteria.
At Boscum, my role is to lead laboratory work, develop and standardize our extracts, and manage the cultivation area. I co-direct the training and consulting area.
From my scientific perspective, I am fascinated by the impact that mushrooms have on our world, our health, our minds. Mycology is a window to understand how life intertwines with the natural world.
